There’s a. lot. going on these days.
Feeling like the mighty walls of our democratic republic are crumbling down all around you? I get it. I feel it too. Did any of us really expect anything else to happen?
We’ve lived on borrowed time, it seems, with merely the facade of a just and fair and representative government. I wish I could pinpoint the moment in history when it stopped supposedly being the greatest system of governance in the world, but I sit here this morning feeling like it never was at all.
It had potential, but like most good things in life, greed and deception ruined it.
What are we learning? Trust no one. Believe in nothing. Stay diligent. Stay aware.
Why do you think the GOP is fighting so hard against ‘wokeness’? Because their worlds are all falling apart around them. Their curtains are falling, and they are doing everything they can think of to keep us from paying attention to what’s behind those curtains.
People are becoming wiser about the true workings of our government system. The behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing, the dark money, the ominous presences that pull all the strings.
None of it is new. It’s always been this way. It feels like we’re living a real-life version of a Scooby-Doo cartoon series. Every episode ending with another mask being ripped off to reveal yet another nefarious player in the game who cries out in despair, “I’d have kept getting away with it too, if it hadn’t been for those crazy woke people!”
Bits and pieces of their master scheme are being uncovered daily. Each blow seemingly harder than the last. Dark money? Everywhere. Corruption? Everywhere. Ethics? Nowhere.
The highest Court in the land? I feel foolish for having ever bought into the idea that its members could be beyond reproach. They’re dirty. They’re cheaters. They’re self-serving. They’re just like every other crook in this fictional story of a free nation. The corporate states of America.
“Save and protect the unborn child!” they cry, while taking away and denying healthcare, maternity leave, affordable childcare, food and nutrition support programs, and everyone’s right to decide when and how they will have a child.
“Save and protect the children!” they cry, while refusing gun control legislation, loosening child labor laws, and crippling the public education system to afford themselves a cheaper, less enlightened pool of workers.
Maybe all of this needed to happen. Maybe, when it’s all said and done, we will all be better off. The systems of oppression will have finally been dismantled and the country will come together again with newfound hope and a clearer, more unified vision for a truly free, truly just, truly fair, and truly representative government. Maybe.
But all this stuff that’s going on now? It is merely the beginning, and it’s going to be a long and hard fight to get us from here to there.
I hate to give Donald Trump any validity, but perhaps he was the impetus we needed to uncover all the seething hate and ugliness that’s been brewing beneath the surface. His actions and his rhetoric somehow shone a light into all the darkest corners of this nation. We can now see it all for what it is. It’s all right out there in the open. The only choice we have now is to deal with it, however we must, so that we can finally heal this nation and move beyond. I just hope we can all survive it.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a demon child. But perhaps he was also a means to an end. I just don’t think he realized the ‘swamp’ he’d ultimately be draining was the one where he and all his cronies lived.
