July 4, 1776 – the day that the Continental Congress approved the final wording of the Declaration of Independence. On this day 243 years ago, the United States of America was “born.” And oh, has she suffered growing pains throughout all those years, but none as potentially damaging to the roots and spirit of its very foundation as we are now seeing unfold before our very eyes.
Our current administration seems to revel in laughing in the face of tradition, the checks and balances of our governmental system, and Constitution of the United States. Empowered by delusions of grandeur, defying Supreme Court directives, subpoenas, and boldly asserting status above and beyond the reach of the law, this administration threatens the foundational fabric of our democratic system.
And here we are, on the Fourth of July, celebrating the birth of a nation by way of the very document that was so carefully crafted to exert our independence 243 years ago from a “long train of abuses and usurpation” and “tyranny” over the States, and from which We, the People, are entrusted with the Right to alter or abolish any government that becomes destructive to the ends of equality, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Seriously, this administration has got to go. Considering the over-indulgent parenting style of the Republican Senate and party as a whole, they all need to go too.
Think about it. Read about it. Then make sure you’re registered to vote and get loud. Use your voice and don’t stand anymore for this nonsense. The United States of America, as divided as we may be, needs to come together to derail the tyrannical leadership of this current administration.
We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness—That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient Causes; and accordingly all Experience hath shewn, that Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while Evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security. Such has been the patient Sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the Necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great-Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States.
